Vale Dr. Bryan G. Chaffee, M.D.
Dr. Bryan G. Chaffee, M.D. Of San Francisco, CA, died October 25,
2006 on
the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania, Africa. He was born June 17, 1968 in
Newton, Kansas to Myron G. and Karen L. Chaffee.
Bryan graduated from Hesston High School in 1986
and
from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1994. He was
licensed
as a physician in California in 1995 and completed his emergency
residency
in 1997 at Harbor UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Chaffee was an emergency room doctor at the California
Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He had recently taken a leave of
absence to join Doctors Without Borders program and had been
assigned
to Darfur, Sudan in Africa where he served with distinction for the six weeks preceding his death.
Bryan had done medical relief work in Latin American, Asia, and Africa. In the last 12 months he served with Australian Aid International
in Pakistan and Kashmir, the Island of Java, and East Timor. Bryan spent this summer on the Thai Burma boarder with AAI and Global Health Access Program (GHAP) helping to train Karen jungle medics from Burma in a Landmine Trauma Management Workshop.
He worked to safe lives of people in communities in crisis after natural disasters, civil unrest, and during genocide.
Bryan will be greatly missed by his
family and many friends he has made on his life's journey serving his
fellow man. A celebration of life service is pending at the Golden
Plains
