Emergency Response

AAI has the capability to deploy small teams at short notice to provide health interventions in response to humanitarian emergencies.

Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction

In addition to Emergency Response, AAI conducts longer term Disaster Risk Reduction Programmes in a number of countries to improve the resilience and reduce the vulnerability of communities to shocks caused by natural hazards and conflict. These include:

  • Timor-Leste Remote Area Health Programme which provides healthcare, health training and capacity building initiatives in remote areas in Timor- Leste.
  • Thai-Burma Border Programme supporting Karen and Shan refugees fleeing violence and persecution. AAI have been conducting long-term war trauma surgical training for Karen medics returning into Burma to assist communities who cannot escape the violence. AAI are also providing an English teaching program to Karen refugee students living in camps on the boarder area.
  • Cambodia Capacity Development Programme that focuses on supporting communities in Battambang Province with health and education initiatives.
