To save lives, alleviate suffering and enhance human dignity by providing access to health care in the aftermath of natural disasters and conflict and by improving the resilience of communities that are vulnerable to crisis.


1. Respect and promote humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence in humanitarian action.
2. Promote respect for international humanitarian law, refugee law and human rights law in the provision of humanitarian action and the protection of populations affected by humanitarian crisis.
3. Promote quality and accountability in humanitarian action guided by the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief, the Sphere Charter & Minimum Standards, the ACFID Code of Conduct and the People in Aid Code of Good Practice.


1. To respond appropriately and effectively to humanitarian emergencies.
2. To protect vulnerable communities affected by natural disaster and conflict to ensure their safety and dignity.
3. To support vulnerable communities in strengthening their resilience to the impact of natural disasters and conflict by improving preparedness, reducing exposure to hazards and by wise management of land and the environment.


1. Maintain a cohesive yet flexible organisational structure to ensure responsiveness.
2. Enable and support our staff and volunteers
3. Grow our income to allow the appropriate expansion of our programming capability.
4. Grow and mobilise our Australian support base
5. Become actively involved in policy formulation and practice within the Australia based international humanitarian community.
6. Monitor and evaluate our performance against our plans and goals


1. Health action (inclusive of emergency health, public health, community health and specialist health areas).
2. Water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion.
3. Livelihoods promotion.
