Marina Tyler

Executive Officer

Marina Tyler

The Executive Director, Marina Tyler, has a Masters degree in Forced Migration, Asylum and Refugees and a post graduate degree in International Social Development. Marina is a full time public servant with the Australian Department of Immigration working in refugee settlement. She also has a long history in volunteering with Australian community based organisations. Internationally, Marina has worked with a number of NGOs. Marina has worked with the Kosovar refugees in Northern Albania and in Kosovar with the returnees. Marina has also spent a substantial amount of time post Tsunami as a manager in Banda Aceh , Indonesia with a medical aid organisation. She has also been involved with Burmese refugees on the Thai-Burma border and has worked in Thailand on a number of consultancies.

Gordon Willcock

Operations Manager

Gordon has been part of AAI's operational coordination and management since our humanitarian response to the Kashmir earthquake in 2005. Since then, he has been involved in the management of AAI’s humanitarian projects and emergency responses in the Philippines, the Thai/Burma boarder and Haiti. Gordon is currently researching for his PhD at The University of Melbourne, his area of expertise being Pakistan and the broader geopolitical and socioeconomic context of South Asia.  Gordon has an academic background in International Relations and Political Science. In addition to his work for AAI, Gordon has travelled extensively in Africa, Europe and South Asia and has spent extended periods of time in Russia and India.

Paul Piaia

Public Relations Officer & Information Technician

Paul Piaia

Paul is a Project Manager for an Australian IT company and was part of the early Emergency Response Team to Pakistan in 2005 and East Timor in 2006 and 2009. Paul was responsible for compiling village assessments, drawing maps of the area and helping the doctors and medics with general first aid. Paul now volunteers his time tirelessly in promotion and media liason duties and is the designer of AAI's website. AKA the Scorpion...

James Judge

Special Advisor

James Judge

James is a full time public servant with the Commonwealth Government in Australia.  He is responsible for developing and maintaining AAI's policies and procedures and provides a valuable insight into all of AAI's operational decisions.

In January 2005 he volunteered in Banda Aceh as part of the Tsunami relief effort. James also managed AAI's emergency shelter program in Kashmir, Pakistan during the start of the Himalyan Winter in 2006 and Java, Indonesia again in 2006.

Paul Gould

Human Resources Coordinator

Paul is an experienced electrical / electronics engineer and has held a number of senior management roles within the fields of HR and General Management over the last 15 years, gaining international business and project experience across Asia, Europe and the North America.  Paul also has experience as a member of the ADF and as a volunteer fire fighter and CFA team leader during major civil emergencies. He is qualified in Humanitarian Operations and holds a Master of Business Law degree together with graduate diplomas in commercial law and business administration.

Lucinda Gabriel

Communications Coordinator

Doctor Lucinda Gabriel graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2010 having previously completing a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences majoring in psychology and microbiology. Lucinda has spent time working with Australian Indigenous communities in clinics in Maningrida, Arnhem Land, Saibai Island Health Clinic and Thursday Island Hospital in the Torres Strait, this in addition to a placement with the Royal Australian Flying Doctors based in Meekatharra, Western Australia. She has an interest in tropical medicine and has undertaken placements in Infectious Disease Units at the Royal Darwin Hospital and Hopsital Italiano de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her keen interest in public health has led to her involvement with AAI and she is currently completing a Masters in Public Health and Tropical Medicine through James Cook University. Lucinda has worked on various communications projects and is looking forward to implementing AAI's Communication's Strategy for 2011/12.

Sophie Wallace

Program Officer

Sophie Wallace recently returned after volunteering for the second time with AAI in Mae Sot with its GetInvolved! education program on the Thai / Burma border. Sophie is a registered nurse with qualifications including a Masters in Public Health, and a Graduate Certificate in Infection Control.  Sophie is currently a Program Officer with AAI where she is responsible for the preparation and briefing of volunteers before the depart for their time in the Mae Sot GetInvolved! program.  Sophie also provides essential linkages between our Australian headquarters and the dedicated personnel working tirelessly along the border.  Sophie has always had an interest in humanitarian work and looks forward to assisting future volunteers prepare for their time along the Thai / Burma border.

Heather Pettican

Program Officer

Heather is from Liverpool, England and she moved to Australia in 2010 after completing a Masters in Applied Human Rights from the University of York, UK. Prior to this, she obtained a BA (Hons) degree in Criminology and Applied Psychology. Heather has undertaken various volunteer, work and research placements in South and East Africa and also works with our partner organisation, Focus on Africa Development (FOAD) as International Programs Support Officer. Heather is passionate in pursuing a career in the fields of international development, human rights and humanitarian assistance.  Heather has recently taken on the role of Program Officer for AAI’s Mae Sot Get Involved Program.

Ahmed Saeed

Ahmed Saeed

Ahmed is an Australian – Pakistani from Perth. Ahmed's initial career was in the Pakistan Air Force as a Commissioned Officer in the Engineering Branch. The Air Force career provided him with an Engineering Degree. He took an early retirement after 10 years of meritorious service to work in the private sector. Ahmed completed his MBA and for the past 11 years works in the Oil & Gas Industry as a specialist in HSE Management in general and a Crisis Manager in particular. He is currently employed as “Corporate Safety Manager” for ENI (an Italian Oil & Gas Company) in their Kazakhstan operations. He is on rotation and spends his off days in Perth with his family.
