Specialised Humanitarian Programs

AAI's distinguishing feature is the provision of specialised humanitarian programs that maintain a constant focus on the communities and individuals whom it serves.

AAI uses a comprehensive community health care model as the foundation for its health care programs. This model has been built on the concept of health intervention and focuses on capacity building and support of the local health care infrastructures. The model is used firstly to examine and provide solutions at the community level where socio-economically and politically marginalised people may not have access to primary health care. The model then seeks to prove interventions to the primary, and where appropriate, secondary health care systems. Through the provision of primary health care, public health, community health, and specialised medical care programs, AAI aims to increase fair and equal access to health care for underserved populations. By not only matching, but also surpassing existing access to, and delivery of health care, AAI strives to lower morbidity and mortality for populations indirectly and directly affected by institutional neglect or disaster events. AAI strives to use concepts of sustainability on all programs, and evidence-based research to evaluate the efficacy of its interventions.

AAI senior management and staff began their careers in field operations working directly with the people whom they were serving. AAI only employs professional volunteers with proven track records of working successfully in arduous conditions. AAI recognises the importance of maintaining an effective team focus and sound leadership so that field staff can concentrate on the job at hand and streamline confusing lines of management. All AAI senior management know the types of challenges faced by its field staff whilst on operations, and as a result, can provide well-informed support to field operations on an ongoing basis. In addition, AAI focuses on providing immediate response while also undertaking detailed assessments, which aims to improve program delivery as the situation allows."
