Supporting the Australian Aviation Museum

Aircraft maintenance

Certainly an aircraft needs to be well maintained to preserve the history and stories that surround it.  An aircraft is of significant size and requires a workforce to upkeep and to regularly carry out set protocols in maintaining its appearance and historic importance.

Aircrafts are towed to the maintenance hangar where the maintenance team are responsible for external cleaning, to remove dust, dirt and grime. It is preferred by the museum that a dry wash takes place, although this requires a greater number of cleaning personnel, it allows other maintenance crew to work on the aircrafts internal components and carry out internal cleaning at the same time.

During regular inspection intervals, aircrafts may require repair of components and hardware, often these components can be large parts of the aircraft in which interstate removalists are contracted to move the component from the museum to Aircraft Maintenance Service Australia base in Brisbane for repair.  These services are extremely expensive and require support from the local community so that the history of the Australian Aviation Heritage can be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come.
